"OtherKin : Fury" by Anya Bast

***
Nikki is a cougar shifter living in a werewolf world. When she's promised as a mate to a wolf shifter named Merrick, the fur flies. This short story is a free title, offered by New York Times bestselling author, Anya Bast. Fury is part one of a two part series. Tranquility is the sequel. These titles are highly erotic and meant for those 18 years or older.

Not a bad book. Not my favorite...very descriptive ((coughs)). Loved the story line and would be intersted in reading more into Nikki's story. Easy to read, just a little rushed. Wouldnt mind reading other works by Anya. Hopefully...

"Ignite" by Brina Courtney

***
Jeremy has no last name. His family has left him at Marksville Orphanage in rural eastern Virginia, hoping to find work during the end of the Great Depression. Unfortunately Jeremy is never adopted, because HE intervened before Jeremy ever had the chance. Ignite is just a piece of his story. Don’t miss Reveal, the next installment in the Cryptid Tales available December 16, 2011.

So I guess this is a teaser for Reveal? I thought it was okay, a little too short for what I normally consider a shorty. Good writing, interesting. Cant judge the author until I read the next book.

"My Love" by Joanne Clancy

****
Is there such a thing as love at first sight? Can love be measured?

My Love by Joanne Clancy is a collection of essays about life, love and dating.
The book discusses different definitions of love, from coming to terms with the reality of love to the importance of giving and generosity and thoughts on the death of a loved one.
The book has ideas on how to woo a woman and how to make a man fall in love. The importance of humour in a dating relationship and how to work on a happy balance while dating is also discussed.

There is a section on first date tips and internet dating.
The last part of the book deals with how to realise when a relationship is over and when it is time to move on with your life. There are some helpful tips on how to start over and how to prepare for dating by dating yourself.
My Love is a beautiful collection of love and life experiences.

So for a book of essays, I auctally read the whole book, which is saying something for me. I love books that puts me in someone else's eyes. Take me to a different time, place, era, or world and you got me, as long as you can write to keep up with my imagination, its not hard. My Love was okay. I'm not a real sappy, mushy person, but I do read sappy, mushy books. Not my favorite but I have read some amazing ones. When I got this book, I assumed it would be another one of the author's stories...But it was refreshing. Nice and happy feelings. Good book.

The Dead Man : Face of Evil" by Lee Goldberg and William Rabkin

*****
From Lee Goldberg... bestselling author of THE WALK and the MONK novels...and William Rabkin, author of the wildly successful PSYCH books... comes the first in an exciting new series of original short novels that blends the horror of Stephen King's THE GUNSLINGER with the action/adventure of Don Pendleton's MACK BOLAN: THE EXECUTIONER...

Matthew Cahill is an ordinary man leading a simple life...until a shocking accident changes everything. Now he can see a nightmarish netherworld of unspeakable evil and horrific violence that nobody else does...

For Cahill, each day is a journey into a dark world he knows nothing about...a quest for the answers to who he is and what he has become...and a fight to save us, and his soul, from the clutches of pure evil.

This book includes a bonus excerpts of THE WALK by Lee Goldberg and DESERT PLACES by Blake Crouch.

And coming soon...more all-new adventures in THE DEAD MAN saga by some of the most talented and successful mystery, western, horror and sci-fi authors out there today.

CRITICAL PRAISE FOR LEE GOLDBERG AND WILLIAM RABKIN...

"You'll finish this book breathless!" New York Times Bestselling author Janet Evanovich

"Leaves you guessing right up until the heart-stopping ending," New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner

"Lee Goldberg can plot and write with the best of them," Mystery Scene Magazine

"William Rabkin nails it...he truly captures PSYCH's manic energy," Bookgasm

"Lee Goldberg gives THE WALK a richness and truthfulness that wouldn't exist if it were only about a cardboard man fighting exterior threats. The story becomes far more poignant because it is about the hero's moral courage as much as it is about a paralyzed world. This is memorable fiction." — Spur-Award winning author Richard Wheeler

"Entertaining and ruefully funny," Honolulu Star Bulletin

"THE WALK is a magnificent novel -- by turns hilarious, scary, sad, witty and ultimately wise on its judgments about the way so many of us live these days. And it's one hell of a page-turner, too," Author Ed Gorman, founder of Mystery Scene Magazine

"Harrowing and funny..." -Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine

"With books this good, who needs TV?" Chicago Sun Times

"You'd be hard-pressed to find another recent work that provides so many hip and humorous moments," Bookgasm...

Awesome characters, easy to read, really spooky, but hey what can I say, I'm a weenie!!! Must read to anyone who likes spooky and unknown. Very descriptive and addicting!!! Had me caught from the first page!!! Comes highly recommended from me!!!!

"Parmethia" by Mark Cool

****
Like a blend of The Gladiator and touch of J.K. Rowling, this middle grade novel tells the story of Mark Anthony and the love of his life, Jasmin during medieval times. Love, honor, betrayal and war, this story takes the young reader through an adventure with swashbuckling highs and deep emotional lows. There is even a love triangle that makes the reader wonder: can you really trust someone you love and when that love is tested will, they pass the test? Enough adventure for the boys, love story for the girls and values that parents will love.

So, for a short story, I really loved it. Battles, Death, Love, action, humor, loved it!!!!! I hate to say it, but would make a great Disney movie... Anyway, Loved it and thought the storyline was facinating. Its a fun read and I hope everyone likes it as much as I did.

"The Demon Queen and the Locksmith" by Spencer Baum

****
In Turquoise, New Mexico, a small group of hippies believe that the mountain north of town emits a constant, resonant hum that is only audible to a chosen few. They call themselves the Hearers, and the fact that fourteen-year-old Kevin Brown has never trusted them makes it all the worse when his own ears begin to ring, and he comes to realize "The Turquoise Hum" may be much more than a sound.

Personally, I wasnt real impressed. Though the storyline is very unusual and a bit creepy...It was very entertaining and alot of fun to read. Cute characters, good descriptions, and alot of indepth ant stuff. More along the lines for my step son to enjoy, so I am passing it on to him. I did enjoy the book.

"Night Machines" by Kia Heavey

****
Maggie decided to have an affair. No one needed to know, not even her lover. . . .

Who would it hurt, if Maggie decided to carry on a torrid affair in her mind? It would soothe her feelings, hurt by her husband’s emotional abandonment while he worked on a disturbing new murder case. It would provide an outlet for the dizzying desire she felt for her employer. It would make her feel loved and appreciated and better able to be a good wife and mother.

But Maggie loses control of the fantasy as lust becomes love, and things she believed confined to her own imagination are somehow known to her spectral lover. A harmless mind game spins out of control and threatens the sanctity of Maggie’s greatest treasure – her family.

Part women's fiction, part suburban fantasy, and part psychological thriller, this unique tale is difficult to categorize. Women looking for a fresh voice in contemporary storytelling will enjoy the genuinely likable characters and an engrossing story that explores marriage, motherhood, morality and, ultimately, the nature of love.

Okay so I even felt guilty reading this book. It literally scared me to death. But all in all it was a really good book. Main characters were really good, easy to read, but the only thing that I didnt like was how easily she pretended that she didnt have children...sorry a tiny spoiler... Anyway, great descriptions, great story line, thought it was a great book.

****

"She Who Hunts" by C.L. Parks

*****
Tenna Massey’s husband is possessed, and may be the one responsible for the string of murders in her community. Only a demon Hunter can stop him, and unfortunately for Tenna, she comes from a long line of them, a legacy she ran away from years ago.

If Tenna chooses to become the Hunter she was destined to be, it will mean stepping back into the world she thought she'd left behind for good. Worse, it will mean killing the man she's loved for so long. But if she doesn't, the murders won't stop.

The longer she puts off her decision, the more innocent lives are in danger, and the more Tenna realizes she can't run forever.

"The First to Fall" by Carol Galusha

***
The First to Fall follows the lives of five children who grow up in a small Illinois town in the 1900s. Their bond remains strong despite racial and economic differences. The children become adults and endure times of loneliness, prejudice, and death.

Marcus and Jackson remain faithful to each other even as they become adults. Mabel must survive the loss of both Ellen and Samantha. She remains true to her childhood friends as she continues to live in Elkhart. It isn't until her old age when she is rewarded with finding them again.

I hate to give this a three but for the life of me I couldnt see giving it more. Had a great storyline, could have been much much more. Loved the history through out and I did enjoy reading it. But like I said it could have been longer and more detailed, going more into the characters lives than skipping around. Again I am not putting author down, I did enjoy the book, I will pass it along to others and Looking forward to seeing more out of this author!! Good job.

"The Devil Colony" by James Rollins

*****
Deep in the Rocky Mountains, a gruesome discovery--hundreds of mummified bodies--stir international attention and fervent controversy. Despite doubts to the bodies' origins, the local Native American Heritage Commission lays claim to the prehistoric remains, along with the strange artifacts found in the same cavern: gold plates inscribed with an unfathomable script.

During a riot at the dig site, an anthropologist dies horribly. All evidence points to a radical group of Native Americans, including one agitator who escapes with a vital clue to the murder and calls on the one person who might help--her uncle, Painter Crowe, director of Sigma Force. To protect his niece and uncover the truth, Painter will ignite a war across the nation's most powerful intelligence agencies. Yet, an even greater threat looms as events in the Rocky Mountains have set in motion a geological meltdown that threatens the entire western half of the U.S.

From the volcanic peaks of Iceland to the blistering deserts of the American Southwest, from the gold vaults of Fort Knox to the bubbling geysers of Yellowstone, Painter Crowe joins forces with commander Gray Pierce to penetrate the shadowy heart of a dark cabal, one that has been manipulating American history since the founding of the thirteen colonies. But can he discover the truth before it destroys all he holds dear?

James Rollins is my absolute favorite author. His books are exciting and suspensful and have that "holy crow" shock and awe type that I absolutely love. This book was no exception. Exciting, loads of Native American folklore and myths. Main characters were awesome as usual, and I cried so much...Not gonna spoil it for you at all. But just gotta say you must read this book. Because I started reviewing books this year, I will re-read all the James Rollins books and review them for you. But this book....completely awesome!! Easy to read, suspensful, insane story line,  better than Indiana Jones... my honest opinion.  A+ to Rollins!!! MUST READ!!!!
